In 2021, the Children's Museum & Theatre of Maine relocated to a new, three-story, 30,000 sq. ft. building in the Portland neighborhood of Libbytown. Interactive exhibits at the museum focus on play-based experiences in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math); arts and culture; performing and visual arts; and early childhood education. These include a one-of-a-kind periscopic camera obscura, a stone labyrinth, a giant interactive ball sculpture, an observation beehive, a dress-up theatre, water tables, a teaching garden, a “Meet our Neighbors” gallery, a makerspace, a Maine watershed exhibit, and indoor and outdoor climbing structures. For an additional fee, the theatre regularly presents plays aimed at young audiences in its 100-seat auditorium. The entire Museum & Theatre is ADA accessible.

The Children's Museum of New Hampshire offers opportunities for children and families to explore art, science, and culture through dozens of activities and exhibits. Among these are the Thinkering and Steam Innovation Labs; Dino Detective; Music Matrix & Sound Watch; Naturalist's Study; Cave Explorers; and Post Office. The recently re-opened Dover Adventure Playground features a life-size flat-bottomed vintage gundalow boat; a net climber; swings and slides; a 3-story Garrison tower; a 1,200 pound, 3x8 foot climbable Alewife granite fish sculpture; a splash pad; musical instruments; and a life-sized “whale's tail” sculpture perched on the roof of the Dover Pool. Regularly scheduled special events take place throughout the year, including the Dover Mini Maker Faire; Teddy Bear Clinic + Picnic; Toddlerfest; 5K Road Race + Kid-Venture Course; and Earth Day Celebration; among others. A museum shop is on the premises.

The Currier Museum of Art, located in Manchester, NH, features European and American paintings, decorative arts, photographs and sculpture. The permanent collection includes works by Picasso, Matisse, Monet, O'Keeffe, Calder, John Singer Sargent, Frank Lloyd Wright, Andrew Wyeth, and Sol LeWitt. Special exhibitions provide opportunities to present work by contemporary and/or local artists, as well as take in-depth looks at certain objects or areas of the Museum's collection. Public programs include tours, live classical music and “Family Days” which include activities for all ages. The Museum also offers tours of the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Zimmerman House, now listed on the Register of Historic Places (reservations required). There is a museum store on the premises.

Passes are not valid for "just -for-members" events, member discount at the Museum shop , admission to the Zimmerman house or special ticketed exhibitions. Tours of the Zimmerman house are a separate charge and require pre-paid reservations.

Historic New England is a historic preservation organization which owns and operates historic house museums and properties open to the public throughout most of New England. The majority of the 36 properties are in Massachusetts, but locations exist in all NE states but Vermont. These include Castle Tucker (Wiscasset, ME), the Jackson House (Portsmouth, NH), the Spencer-Pierce-Little Farm, which (Newbury, MA), Roseland Cottage (Woodstock, CT), the Otis House (Boston, MA), the Lyman Estate (Waltham, MA), Gropius House (Lincoln, MA), and the Arnold House (Lincoln, RI). Styles represented include Federal, Colonial Revival, Victorian, Queen Anne, Arts & Crafts, and Modern, among many others. The Gardner Museum houses the collection of Isabella Stewart Gardner, a local patron of the arts who died in 1924, in a building she commissioned to look like a 15th century Venetian palazzo. The center of the original building showcases courtyard plantings that reflect the seasons as they evolve throughout the year. In addition to her collection, which remains displayed exactly she arranged it per her will, there are changing exhibitions, concerts, lectures, family events, and an artist-in-residence program. In 2012, the museum opened an addition designed by Renzo Piano that houses a space for their concert series.

Opened in 1953, the Ogunquit Museum of American Art has important connections to the famed Ogunquit art colony and American Modernism. The grounds feature a three-acre sculpture park containing 18 small gardens with views of the Atlantic Ocean. Changing exhibits feature works dating from the 1800s up to the present with work by contemporary artists. The collection consists of over 3,000 works which includes paintings, drawings, sculpture, prints, photographs and film, including pieces by Edward Betts, Charles Woodbury, Hamilton Easter Field, Robert Laurent, Peggy Bacon, Will Barnet, Charles Burchfield, Marsden Hartley, Walt Kuhn, Gaston Lachaise, Reginald Marsh, and Marguerite and William Zorach. The galleries are open each year from May 1 through October 31. All but one of the galleries are accessible by wheelchairs.

The Peabody Essex Museum grew out of the collection of East India Marine Society, an organization of Salem captains whose charter called for acquisition of “natural and artificial curiosities.” Its permanent collection contains art and artifacts of Africa, Asia, India, China (with a Qing Dynasty house brought from the Huizhou region), Japan, Korea, Pacific Islands, and features objects of maritime art and history that include paintings, drawings, ship models, marine decorative arts, tools, weapons, navigational instruments, and ship and yacht plans. It also has a thriving changing exhibition schedule that sometimes includes important traveling shows.

Strawbery Banke Museum is located in the South End Historic District of Portsmouth, NH, on a 10-acre campus that features more than 37 restored buildings built between the 17th and 19th centuries. Created in 1915 with money from a philanthropist interested in promoting history, science and the arts to her fellow Dover citizens, the eclectic Woodman Institute Museum includes a medicinal & industrial garden; the oldest Sycamore tree in Strafford County; and four historic houses filled with artifacts connected to the nation's and Dover's past: The Woodman House (1818), The Damm Garrison House (1675), The John Parker Hale House (1813), and The Keefe House (1825). Of note in the museum's collection is the saddle used by President Abraham Lincoln when he rode to review troops shortly before his assassination. Changing exhibitions of artwork at the Thom Hindle Gallery include works available for purchase.
